The quest to register a laboratory in Cameroon lies in the interest to conduct medical analysis which are acts of biology pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment, and prophylaxis of human and animal diseases. To register a laboratory in Cameroon, specialized technical personnel must be recruited. As a result, this process is subject to the grant of an agreement. In order for this agreement to be granted to the applicant, the requirement to register a laboratory in Cameroon must be complied with. However, the agreement differs when it concerns a medical laboratory in Cameroon and a biological laboratory in Cameroon.
The legalities involved in registering a biological and medical laboratory in Cameroon touch on the nature of the person applying for the agreement and the office of the technical director. In this light, the legalities are different when it comes to applications made by physical persons and moral persons.
REQUIREMENTS TO REGISTER A LABORATORY IN CAMEROON
The requirements to register a laboratory in Cameroon, be it a biological and medical laboratory will vary based on the nature of the applicant. The eligible applicants to are natural persons or corporate persons. Their requirements will be illustrated below;
PHYSICAL PERSONS
Physical persons desirous to register a laboratory in Cameroon have to submit the following;
- An informative stamped application
- Legalized copies of certificates requested
- Attestation of presentation of the original(s) of the said certificates
- A certified copy of birth certificate of not less than 3 months
- A copy of non-crime certificate of less than 3 months
- An attestation of registration into the council
- The localization plan etc.
MORAL PERSONS
Moral persons have to submit the following;
- An informative stamped application
- The constitution of the company
- The composition of the board of directors/executive board
- Legalized copies of certificates of technical staff
- Localization plan etc.
OFFICE OF THE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
To register a laboratory in Cameroon, the office of the technical director must be organized. In order to exercise the function of the technical director of a private biological and medical laboratory in Cameroon, the candidate must have a certificate of specialized studies in one of the following domains;
- Immunology
- Hematology
- Parasitology
- General and analytical biochemistry etc.
He must have been a medical laboratory officer, a senior medical laboratory officer etc.
He must furnish the following documents;
- An informative stamped application
- Legalized copies of certificates
- An attestation of presentation of original certificates
- Legalized copy of birth certificate of not less than 3 months etc.
PROCESS TO REGISTER A LABORATORY IN CAMEROON
Upon complete compilation of all the documents required of the process to register a laboratory in Cameroon, the applicant is expected to deposit the file at the territorially competent office against a proof of receipt.
The application shall be treated within a 90 days period from the date of deposit of the file at the competent office.
The applicant will be notified in writing of the reasons for his application being rejected which could be an incomplete file or certificates not conforming to the prescribed qualification.
If the application is granted, the grantee shall be notified of the decision by mail and a visit must be solicited for inspection of the laboratory before it begins operation towards the public.
The authorization is renewed every 2 years upon the production of certain documents.
